MCS beats rivals to design, deliver and construct a recycled plastic bridge for Plymouth bridle path.

We’ve recently completed an exciting Bridges and Structures project in Plymouth, Devon. Our task was to design and replace a 16 metre footbridge that formed part of a public bridle path. The original had decayed due to saltwater erosion.

Whereas rival contractors put forward designs using timber and steel, we recommended using recycled plastic – a cheaper alternative that’s more hard wearing, requires little maintenance and is an environmentally-friendly material that can be recycled again at the end of its life.

Our design had to meet current legislation and provide a life expectancy in excess of 40 years. As the bridge was delivered in kit form, we were able to replace the eroded bridge within days, causing minimum disruption to users of the bridle footpath.
