Project Description

Over the years, silt, sand and debris had built up around Strawberry Bridge, completely blocking one arch and partially blocking the main arch. Not only did this restrict the river flow, it presented a significant flood risk. Our task was to remove the debris.

Due to the structure of Strawberry Bridge, we had to draw on a combination of methods to remove the build up. We used excavators to dredge either side of the bridge to a suitable level, and then cleared under the arches by hand. To minimise the environmental impact, we used biodegradable oil in all machinery.

We removed approx. 60 tonnes of material from the site using a grab lorry – and enabled the river to flow freely.
